17th Judicial District Attorney's Office Files Attempted Murder, First-Degree Assault on a Peace Officer Charges Against Matthew Lucero

Brighton, CO —Today, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is announcing the filing of an Attempted Murder charge against Matthew Lucero, 34, related to his alleged actions that resulted in injuries to a Brighton Police Officer during an apprehension attempt along 7th Avenue in Brighton on August 30, 2023. 

Lucero is charged with:  
  • 1st-Degree Attempted Murder (F2)
  • 1st-Degree Assault on a Peace Officer (F3)
  • 2nd-Degree Burglary (F3)
  • Attempted Robbery (F5)
  • 3rd-Degree Assault (M1)
  • Crime of Violence (Sentence Enhancer)
Case number 2023CR002698 was filed in Adams County District Court. 

The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6.
